The Goldcrafter
The Goldcrafter's Corner started in 1989 in Williamsport, PA. The Goldcrafter, Stephanie Long, had been a jewelry major at Plattsburgh SUNY for 3 years, before taking her BA in Fine Arts from Mansfield University. Working as a graphic designer, she met Peter Koch, who had renovated the County jail in Williamsport into an artist community, and the Goldcrafter's Corner was born, 2 cells in the back of The Old Jail Center, with a 2 year old in a playpen in the back. Based on the artist's vision and love of beautiful things, the store grew, gradually picking up the work of other artists in a variety of media that fit her vision. For the past 20 years, only American artists are welcome on her carefully curated shelves. The shop has moved a number of times, from it's original location to Washington Blvd. in Williamsport, and then to Jonestown Rd in Harrisburg, before reaching it's current location on N. Hanover St. in Carlisle, PA.
Stephanie's feeling that jewelry should be personal, ideally one of a kind- a reflection of your own uniqueness- has carried the store forward through all it's incarnations. She loves nothing better than sitting down with you to design a piece that expresses YOUR vision, jewelry that speaks to who you are. She will incorporate your gold, your ideas, and set or reset your stones- or tempt you with some of the gems she has lovingly collected through the years. She works in gold, silver, and mixed metals, up to 4 colors of gold.
The Jewelry
Stephanie is always willing to create custom magic for you, as well as showcasing her work in 14kt gold, sterling silver, mixed metals and beaded. She also carries the work of other American artists in jewelry, adding in Bronze, porcelain, sterling and gold-filled, niobium and glass.
Inspiration
Nature is a huge inspiration, but anything can inspire you. While many artists find custom work frustrating, Stephanie finds inspiration there as well. "If you allow yourself to be carried in new directions by what the customer wants, it can open new paths you might never have seen."
